Diesel Engine Apprentice Program
The Ring Power Apprentice Program is a two-year, "Learn While You Earn" program designed for mechanically inclined individuals who are interested in training for a career as a service technician while earning a wage for the work they do.
Each apprentice is provided an "Apprentice Toolbox" and receives credits toward tool purchases throughout the program, which he or she redeems upon completion. Apprentices who successfully complete this program acquire basic safety and technical skills, through both on-the-job training with mentors and by attending instructor led classes. Upon successful completion, apprentices are re-classified as entry-level II technicians in their assigned fields.
Ring Power is one of six Cat dealers that sponsor Caterpillar's "ThinkBIG" internship program at South Georgia Technical College in Americus, Ga. The two-year, Heavy Equipment Dealer Service Technology (HEDST) program teaches students to service Cat equipment using cutting-edge diagnostic and maintenance systems, advanced technologies, and high-tech tools. Graduates of the program receive an associate degree in applied science from SGTC.
Developed entirely by Caterpillar, the curriculum combines classroom work at the college with hands-on work experience at the Cat dealer in a paid internship, allowing students to apply what they learn during their classroom/lab sessions to a "real world" shop setting. In addition, it gives them a chance to become familiar with the Cat dealership environment and organizational structure while gaining the competencies expected of a professional service technician.
Ring Power maintains a competitive edge through continuing education. A combination of hands-on training and classroom instruction keep service technicians on top of the latest technological advancements, and helps all employees develop their current strengths and professional skills to their fullest potential.
As a Caterpillar Regional Dealer Learning Center, Ring Power offers on-site training with full-time, factory trained instructors who are also experienced service technicians. Ring Power's training centers in St. Augustine and Tampa have the engine, electrical, hydraulic, and computer labs needed to teach and maintain the highest-quality workforce.
Classes in Safety, Leadership, Customer Service and other business skills are also part of the on-going training curriculum.
